Indonesia

Indonesia has embarked on the development of comprehensive national plans for climate change mitigation, aligning with its commitments under the Paris Agreement. The country ratified the Agreement and submitted an enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2022. Additionally, it has formulated a national Long-Term Strategy for Low Carbon and Climate Resilience (LTS-LCCR) aiming for 2050. Within this framework, Indonesia has expressed a keen interest in fostering international partnerships. These collaborations aim to support the nation's sustainable transition to a low-carbon economy and facilitate a green recovery in the post-COVID-19 era.

Yogyakarta is located in the south-central region of the island of Java and covers an area of 32.5 km² with a population of 414,718.

Following consultations with local stakeholders, Yogyakarta was selected as a focal city for the conceptualization and development of Article 6 urban mitigation activities. This selection was based on its potential for emission reductions and impact, particularly in the waste and transportation sectors.
